When someone searches “clinic near me” or “mobile shop in Uttam Nagar”, Google shows a map with three businesses at the top. Those listings come from Google Business Profile – a free tool every local business should use. Here is how to set it up properly.

Step 1: Check if your business is already listed
Search your business name on Google Maps. If a listing exists, choose “Claim this business”. If not, go to google.com/business and add a new business.
Step 2: Add your business name and category
Use your real business name exactly as it appears on your board – don’t add keywords. Choose the most specific primary category (for example “Dental clinic” rather than “Doctor”) and add a few relevant secondary categories.
Step 3: Location or service area
If customers visit you, add your shop address. If you visit customers or work from home, set it up as a service-area business and hide your address, listing the areas you serve instead.
Step 4: Phone number and website
Add a phone number customers can call and your website link. Use the same name, address and phone everywhere online – Google trusts consistent details.
Step 5: Verify your business
Google may verify by video, phone, SMS, email or postcard. Follow the instructions exactly; edits made before verification may stay pending.
Step 6: Complete every section
- Business hours, including holidays
- Services or products with short descriptions
- At least 10 real photos – outside, inside, team and work
- A clear description of what you do and where
- Booking or WhatsApp link if available
Step 7: Get reviews and stay active
- Share your review link with happy customers on WhatsApp
- Reply to every review politely, including negative ones
- Post offers or updates regularly
- Answer questions in the Q&A section
Common mistakes
- Adding keywords or city names to the business name
- Using a different phone number on the website
- Changing details again and again while an edit is under review
- Fake reviews – Google can remove them and penalise the profile
